After retiring to Truro MA, he wrote a weekly sports column for the Cape Cod Times, until just weeks prior to his passing. For 33 years, Bingham was a writer and editor at Sports Illustrated. ![]() He and his wife Betty, who survives him, raised four children in Port: David, Eric, Liza and Amy. Walter Bingham, a 27 year Port Washington resident and co-founder of the annual Thanksgiving Day Five Mile run died on May 13 at age 89 in Duxbury, MA. He is survived by his son Evan and daughter Leslie, his son-in-law Yves Roger and grandson, Nico Roger. Until his last moment he never lost his sense of humor or his love of ice cream. In recognition of his reputation in, and contributions to, the architectural profession, he received a Lifetime Achievement Award in 1998 from the American Institute of Architects. He was wounded twice, was awarded the New York Conspicuous Service Medal and became a Chevalier of the Légion d’Honneur. Born on June 18, 1925, he landed on Utah Beach as part of the advance D-Day invasion team. He was pre-deceased by his beloved wife, Elleen, in 2004. Blum, award winning architect, died on April 12 in the home he designed and lived in for 68 years. A public Catholic memorial will follow at later date. Carol is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Fioretti, son-in-law, Thomas Fioretti and her granddaughter, Talia Fioretti, who was her sunshine and brought so much joy to her life. Years later, after John had passed, she worked for GEICO Insurance Company in Woodbury. After the birth of their daughter, Kathleen, they moved to Bellmore. Born in 1939 in Glendale, Carol Crothers, as she was then known, attended Jamaica Vocational High School. Carol O’Connor of Bayville passed away on April 19.
